The workshop dates are Jan. 17 to 22 2011 in Patzcuaro Michoacan and Feb. 14 to 19 in La Manzanilla.
The Class in Patzcuaro January 17 to 22 2011
Beginner to intermediate level
Class size is limited to 4 people for lots of individual attention.
- Day 1-Getting up to speed- Tour the town and learn camera and photography basics. We’ll have a chance to photograph local gardens, flowers, people, animals and buildings.
- Day 2-A field trip to Tzintzantzun to explore the Purepecha ruins and the churches and market. We’ll also visit a local pottery.
- Day 3-We’ll go to Santa Clara del Cobre (the copper town) We’ll visit local coppersmiths and sit a while in the bustling town square and visit nearby Zirahuen lake.
- Day 4-DAY OFF to explore Patzcuaro or another of the nearby towns.
- Day 5- Boat trip to Janitizio an Island in Lake Patzcuaro. Photograph local fishermen using butterfly nets. We’ll have lunch at one of the colourful lakeside restaurants. Then we’ll climb the hill through the winding streets filled with handicraft shops. If you dare once we reach the top you can climb the dizzying staircase to the top of the statue of Jose Maria Morelos for an outstanding view of the lake.
- Day 6-Trip to Tocuaro to see the papermache mask makers and wood carvers. Then to Jaracuaro where everyone in town weaves straw mats called petates. In the evening there’ll be a farewell dinner party.
